Those of you that know me, know I’m a big fan of John Avide Lindqvist’s novel Let The Right One In. The novel was made into an excellent film overseas and is currently being remade here for the states with JJ Abrams (Cloverfield, Star Trek) producing. Those of you that know me also know how much I loathe that Hollywood cannot come up with original ideas; they remake, reboot, sequel, prequel everything. If the first one made money, and they can make it cheaper now and still make the same money or more, why not remake it instead of taking a chance on a property (like adapting a novel or short-story) that hasn’t been proven yet. Hollywood will also take terribly written books like Twilight and make them into eye-candy emo fests guaranteed to make teenaged girls line up around the block.
Well, I’m actually excited about this remake. For one, the American cast is excellent. Second, they’re supposedly staying a little closer to the book. For those not in the know, this novel is the polar opposite of Twilight. The vampires in this story are vicious and blood-thirsty. The novel deals with some tough themes, and is not something I’d recommend to your teen-aged daughter. Thirdly, this film will be distributed by Hammers Films. Yep, you read correctly, Hammer, the same guys that made Dracula in color with Christopher Lee. This will be the first Hammer film in probably 20 or 30 years.
I’m going to attempt to post the first picture still from the film here, but if this doesn’t work, you can check out http://www.darkhorizons.com (link to the right here) for all the news.
